Merry Christmas
On Christmas morning, more than eight-out-of-ten Americans celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and 66% will open holiday gifts.
Eighty-one percent (81%) of those who celebrate the holiday believe that Christ is the Son of God and 70% view the day primarily as a religious holiday. Eighty-three percent (83%) also think that Jesus Christ actually walked the Earth 2000 years ago and 73% believe Jesus Christ was born to the Virgin Mary.
During this season, 64% of all adults attended a religious service, 59% attended a Christmas party, and 12% went Christmas caroling.
Sixty-nine percent (69%) consider Christmas to be one of the nation’s most important holidays. That places it on top of the list, with the Fourth of July in second place. Sixty-eight percent (68%) put up a Christmas tree and 60% also decorated their home. Those with children at home are more likely to have trees and decorations.
