On Mother's Day 2006, 67% of American adults believe that "being a Mother [is] the most important role for a woman to fill in today’s world." Just 19% disagree.

Seventy-two percent (72%) of women say that being a mother the most important role and 61% of men agree. A solid majority share that view among across all ages, races, and measured demographic groups.

Among those adults whose mother is still alive, 73% say they will visit Mom today. Another 21% will call. Those who are younger and those who are unmarried are more likely to visit.

Thirty-one percent (31%) say they're sending flowers for today, while 63% are not. Younger adults are more likely to send flower than their elders.

Twenty-nine percent (29%) of all Americans consider Mothers' Day one of the nation's most important holidays. Eight percent (8%) say it's one of the least important, while 61% say it's somewhere in between.
