Defense Nominee Gates: 41% Favorable
32% Have No Opinion
In the immediate aftermath of his nomination to replace Donald Rumsfeld, Robert Gates is viewed favorably by 41% of Americans, and unfavorably by 27%. A Rasmussen Reports national opinion survey of 1,000 Likely Voters found that 32% don’t know enough about him one way or the other.
Gates is viewed favorably by 51% of Republicans and just 34% of Democrats. Among those unaffiliated with either major party, 40% have a favorably opinion of the nominee while 18% have an unfavorable view.
