71% Approve of Bible in Inauguration Ceremony
Donald Trump will be sworn in today with his hand on the Bible – actually two Bibles – and voters strongly support this inauguration tradition.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 71% of Likely U.S. Voters think it’s appropriate to have the president place his hand on the Bible when taking the oath of office at the inauguration, a tradition dating back to President George Washington. Just 15% do not, while 14% are undecided. These findings have barely changed since Trump’s first inauguration in 2017.(To see survey question wording, click here.)

The survey of 1,330 U.S. Likely Voters was conducted on January 13-15, 2025 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC.
