Summer Heat: 62% Blame Climate Change

Most Americans think it’s hotter than usual this summer, and a majority suspect it’s because of climate change.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 52% of American Adults believe the weather in their area is hotter this summer than in most previous years. Only seven percent (7%) say summer is cooler this year, while 38% think it’s about the same as most previous years. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Sixty-four percent (62%) believe it’s likely that climate change is causing more extreme weather, including heat waves and droughts in summer, including 37% who think it’s Very Likely. Twenty-nine percent (29%) don’t think climate change is to blame for extreme summer weather, including 14% who say it’s Not At All Likely. Last July, 64% thought it was at least somewhat likely climate change was to blame for more extreme summer weather.
