Hudson Index: Boston
Hudson Employment Index (SM) for Boston workers fell 2.1 points to 91.8 in September, its lowest reading of the year. Area confidence has been steadily declining since April when the Index was at 103.7. Less optimism regarding hiring expectations and job satisfaction continued to hinder local confidence. Boston’s latest reading is nearly six points below last September, when the local Index was 97.5. However, it should be noted that the country was coping with the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita at that time. The composite Index, based on responses from approximately 9,000 workers nationwide, also fell in September, dropping 2.4 points to 100.5
