Missouri is a classic swing state in Presidential elections. The candidate who wins the Show-Me State’s Electoral Votes generally wins the White House.

Looking ahead to Election 2008, Senator Hillary Clinton attracts between 46% and 48% of the vote when matched against four top Republican hopefuls. She “leads” all four Republicans by single digit margins suggesting that Missouri voters will see more than their fair share of television commercials in 2008.

Rudy Giuliani is closest to the Democratic frontrunner, trailing Clinton by just three percentage points (46% to 43%). Thompson and McCain each trail Clinton by six points—it’s Clinton 48% Thompson 42% and Clinton 46% McCain 40%. Mitt Romney is currently the weakest Republican in these match-ups trailing by nine points, 48% to 39%. The Governor’s race is likely to be close as well.

Clinton is viewed favorably by 50% of Missouri voters and unfavorably by 49%. She is very popular among Democrats (87% favorable) and very unpopular among Republicans (80% unfavorable). Among those not affiliated with either major party, 44% have a favorable opinion and 51% say the opposite.

Giuliani is viewed favorably by 52% of the state’s voters, Thompson by 48%, McCain by 46%, and Romney by 42%. On the national scene, 44% say they will vote against Romney no matter who is on the ballot in 2008. That’s a point higher than the number who will vote against Clinton.

Clinton has consistently led all Democrats in the Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll. Giuliani has held a less comfortable lead on the Republican side. It’s becoming more and more clear that reporters have been missing what matters in the race for the GOP nomination.

Like voters everywhere, most in Missouri want to see troops coming home from Iraq. Just 25% favor an immediate withdrawal while another 35% want the troops home within a year.

Rasmussen Reports today released state polling results in Pennsylvania, Missouri, New York and Illinois. Other recent state polls have been released in Ohio, Florida, Arkansas, Wisconsin, Michigan, Oregon, Colorado, and New Hampshire.

In Primary Polls, Clinton leads all Democrats in New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Florida.

The Republican Primary picture is more muddled. Romney leads in New Hampshire, Thompson leads in South Carolina, and Giuliani is on top in Florida.
