The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of New Jersey voters found Democratic Incumbent Frank Lautenberg leading three Republican opponents in the race for the U.S. Senate in head to head match-ups. Lautenberg leads Anne Evans Estabrook 44% to 34%, Joe Pennacchio 46% to 38% and Murray Sabrin 46% to 31%. Against Estabrook, Lautenberg draws in votes from 48% of females and 40% of males. Estabrook earns support from 36% of males and 33% of females. Lautenberg leads Pennacchio by twenty-six points among female voters. Lautenberg is ahead in all three match-ups when it comes to unaffiliated voters. He leads Estabrook 38% to 21%, Pennacchio 44% to 25% and Sabrin 37% to 22% among voters not affiliated with either major party. Just over half of voters (51%) have a favorable opinion of Lautenberg. Thirty-nine percent (39%) share an unfavorable opinion of the senator. The three republican candidates are less known. Estabrook is viewed favorably by 32%, unfavorably by 32% and 36% are not sure. Pennacchio earns positive ratings from 35%, negative ratings from 27% and 38% are not sure. Forty-percent (40%) of voters are not sure of their opinions on Sabrin, while 29% view him favorably and 32% view him unfavorably. While the poll results are generally encouraging for Lautenberg, any incumbent who polls below 50% is considered potentially vulnerable.
